Tim Jackson, author of Prosperity without Growth, gave a great TED talk this summer that’s now online. In one of the most interesting parts (10m30) he argues that developing a sustainable economic system doesn’t mean curtailing our possibilities as human beings – quite the contrary.
And perhaps the most memorable and widely repeated quote is this, which drew a big round of applause from the audience:
“This is a story about us, people, being persuaded to spend money we don’t have, on things we don’t need, to create impressions that won’t last, on people we don’t care about.”
